Level-Up Your Summer: Video Games at Russell Library

Played any good games lately? It might be time to check out Russell Library’s ever-growing video game collection!

The Video Game collection is on the wall just as you enter The Space (formerly known as The Teen Room).

Russell Library began offering Nintendo Switch games approximately one year ago, and they quickly became one of our most popular collections. Now, we are pleased to offer titles for PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well! We plan to continue expanding our collection so that players of all major platforms might find something new to experience.

Much like the books we read and shows we watch, video games have stories to tell, and no shortage of ways to tell them. Many games encourage critical thinking, problem solving, improving literacy, and exploring creativity. They can also be a great way to socialize with friends, peers, and family alike.

New PlayStation 4 and 5 games, including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Spider-Man Miles Morales, and Minecraft.

To check out a game, just grab the case from the shelf and bring it to the circulation desk. There, the staff will give you the disc or cartridge for you to take home in the case. Video games can be borrowed for 3 weeks. You’ll need the corresponding console at home in order to play — your Xbox won’t be able to read PlayStation discs, for example.

What Games Does the Library Have?

Click here to browse all of the games in our collection. If a game you’d like to play is checked out, you can select “Request it”, and we’ll hold it for you once it’s returned. Our games do not transit to other libraries, so they will always be available to borrow from the Russell Library.

If there’s a video game you’d like to play that Russell Library doesn’t currently have, you can still request it! Just fill out this form. After providing the title for the game, select Format: “Other.” Then, mention whether you want the game for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox in the “Specify Other Format” box.

In future blog posts, I’ll aim to highlight new additions to our collection, as well as strategies, hidden gems, or other titles of note. Whether you’re an avid gamer or just beginning to explore new titles, there’s something for everyone at Russell Library!
