Summer @ Russell Sneak Preview

What has rainbow colors,
fuzzy wings,
a pig snout,
a down dog,
lizard eyes,
a paint palette,
and a Bunsen burner?

Summer Reading at Russell Library, of course.

Charlie the Gecko from Furry Scaly Friends

This summer, mark your calendars for a myriad of events at Russell Library featuring art, animals, science, music, books, and more. Help us kick off our Summer Reading theme, Color Our World, on Saturday, June 14th. Meet, pet, and even feed over twenty different animals on our South Lawn with Furry Scaly Friends.

While you’re here cuddling with animals, pick up your Summer Reading trackers. Kids and young adults each have their own painters’ palettes and list of activities. Each time a young person completes an activity, they can color in one of the paint splotches on the palette. Avid young readers who finish the Kids’ palette can complete the Young Adults palette for additional challenges.

Thanks to donations from the Friends of Russell Library and individual donors (more donations are always welcome, by the way), we have over 20 prizes just for kids including four grand prize $50 gift cards to Amato’s Toys here in Middletown. Young adults and advanced tweens can fill out their harder painters’ palettes for a chance to win three $50 gift cards to Dunkin’ and Starbucks.

Adults will have their own Summer Reading trackers, with specially-designed Bingo cards made by staff. Adult readers can win gift cards to local businesses by filling out their bingo cards. Kick off Adult Summer Reading on June 14th with a free jazz concert by the Abe Ovadia & Ralph Lalama Duo.

Stay tuned for more details about summer events at Russell Library, including our Summer Reading finale party with Xen’s Critters on Saturday, August 16th. Readers of all ages will be able to sign up from our website starting June 1st.
